Selangor offers care course for parents with cerebral palsy children

16-Jul-24 oleh Sofia Nasir

SHAH ALAM, July 12 — Selangor has become the first state in Malaysia to specifically offer services to those living with cerebral palsy.

State executive councillor for social welfare and women empowerment Anfaal Saari said the Cerebral Palsy Care Unit (CPCU) was launched today via Anak Istimewa Selangor and Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor. The programme was initiated upon witnessing the difficulties parents face in caring for and raising special children without specific assistance from any quarters. “To raise these children requires a high cost. Most caregivers choose not to work due to the heavy burden of care. I fully empathise in this matter. “With this intervention, we hope their burden can be lightened. Selangor strives to live up to the concept of being a liveable state, providing support for its vulnerable residents,” she said. Anfaal was speaking at CPCU’s launch, which was held at the State Secretariat Building today. She added that it will be implemented in three phases: empowerment training for cerebral palsy child care, equipment lending services, and treatment services. The first phase will be conducted in three series per year in selected districts. Starting next month, each series is expected to involve 30 parents or caregivers. “The conditions to participate in this programme include having a child with cerebral palsy aged 18 years and below, the parent or guardian is a voter in Selangor, and possessing a disabled person’s card,” she said. Applications can be made at http://www.anisselangor.com/cpcuanis starting on Monday (July 15) at 3pm. For further information, please email jabatananis@yawas.my.
